Description
eCoBus (electrified Cooperative Bus systems) is a MobiLab Project in partnership with Volvo buses, Sales-Lentz, PTV Group, KU LEUVEN and Universidad de Cádiz with the aim of aking an intelligent transport system more and more concrete.
An Intelligent transportation system (ITS) is the application of sensing, analysis, control and communications technologies to ground transportation in order to improve safety, mobility and efficiency. These technologies needs a wide range of applications that process and share information to ease congestion, improve traffic management, minimize environmental impact and increase the benefits of transportations. It is easy to imagine how these data grow exponentially and require highly sophisticated algorithms to be processed.
Although ITS may refer to all modes of transport, the directive of the European Union 2010/40/EU, made on the 7 July 2010, defined ITS as systems in which information and communication technologies are applied in the field of road transport, including infrastructure, vehicles and users, and in traffic management and mobility management, as well as for interfaces with other modes of transport. ITS may improve the efficiency of transport in a number of situations, i.e. road transport, traffic management and mobility.
eCoBus is a project that combines the scientific skills of academic partners with the experience and technology of industrial partners. In the academic field it involves teachers, researchers and students at various levels and various experimental theses have been carried out with the first results and many others will be realized thanks to the study of these systems. In particular, the engineering branches of transport and civil engineering, IT engineering, management and automation engineering are involved. However, concrete objectives would not be achievable without the significant contribution of industrial partners. This project concerns the Luxembourg and the goal is to create mathematical models to be analyzed to obtain concrete indications of actual performance of electric buses.
The first research-oriented project focused on the development of a Cooperative ITS-based integrated control system coordinating electric buses, e-charging infrastructure and traffic control in order to minimize total energy consumption and to allow better integration of electric buses within public transport operations and of subsequent developments and results we will talk to you on this site!
